Phase 2 alpha getting closer Here are the PVP sets

Update: Even the Evicerator’s armor set can burn =)

Update: Looks good for Multiplayer =).. I need to get the firewall punching working and some database items finished then the list!.. =) Also added a PVP earned Axe =).. now I just need a name for it =)

Update: Great no late night it looks like.. =) So I will get some M.E. time =)

Update: Day job is kicking my butt I will be working past midnight tonight most probably… BUT I do have to pay the bills and everyone knows apps do not do that πŸ˜‰ The list is at the bottom when I finish that we will have another build.. Close =).. I will be working a few full days next week with some time off so there hopefully will be some extreme progress =)

Alright gearing up for Alpha Phase 2

I have combat in.. It is pretty awesome. I cannot recall a pvp shooter rpg game with more weapons/armor/spells. I am sure there is one out there.. the next step is to punch through firewalls to connect. Then add in the winning and death screens…

After all is going there I will move back to the build squash bugs and get you all a build..I want to see how real latency effects games.. not my false stuff… and then see how I want to change the simulation… I have a lot to do as far as match ups as well.. -)

But I am a lot farther then I was and through the confusion and hell of Objective C and sockets….

OOOO YEEEAAAAAAA!!!!!!

Slow and steady… every build I have to place on two devices.. so to check my work it takes five minutes minimum a WHACK!.. I wish there was a better way.. =(.. o Well.. cannot run two simulators on the same machine… (BAD MOVE APPLE) πŸ˜‰ I should have a nifty video soon of combat in actions =)

Then pool party time and a little R&R on my afternoon off =)

WOOT! GUYS ART IS NO WHERE NEAR DONE.. just trying to get all the systems GO.. and that thar is arena.. 2 players fighting to the death =0..

I still need to get the combat going and firewall stuff.. but thar she is matey!

I thought I would toss out the features for those new to Mission Europa.
– Full First person Role playing Shooter.
– THOUSANDS of Rifles, pistols, Swords, Axes, Skills (spells)
They are created from items you find and schematics or found as drops.
– 50 main bosses LOTS of random spawn mini bosses
– Randomly Generated levels (with a map now!)

Update: Alrighty then!.. I am now on to combat in the arena!.. Imagine using a Reyem Neas’s Massive effect to hide where you are.. then darting to a side to summon the Banshee… o00000o it shall be awesome! I hope by the end of next week to have Areana mode done and next weekend to squash the remaining bugs. Then finalize the alpha with you guys.. THEN move on to all the quests.. goooood stuff!

Update: Good news.. I have two players connecting running around the area and now on to cutting each other into pieces =).. Amazing I LOVE IT! =)…

WEEEEE working like crazy… its midnight.. day job soon after work out!

BUT.. I am hoping to be fighting myself in the arena in a few days!.. Then I tweak it and move to the bugs..

I will need to most probably set times we meet up to duke it out in the arena with so few around and at different times.. with prebuilt chars at first.. then in beta we will bring it with what we make =-).. (ignore my angelic gear of course!)

Update: WOW.. now I can join and walk around with two players about to duke it out! =).. man this is going to ROCK!

Update: Day Job has my goat right now… I will hopefully have some time tonight =)…

Update: Ok I got the games connecting handshaking and sending the player data to each other…… Next step load the test arena and see each other walk around.. next step using abilities. Then the ladder system. Lastly busting through firewalls properly.

Update: Good news!! I finally am getting there.. what a hassle.. But I know have a peer to peer connection working over tcp no Bonjour crap.. I want to get the game running on that then move to going outside the firewall so now on to making Arena gameplay happen! =)

Not getting a whole lot of time the past 4 days but still making progress.. If this was a full time job I would have launched it twice by now =)..

So I am still trying to get the games talking. I am on the last steps of punching holes in a firewall… not to much I just need time!

I think alpha 001.0 will have the arena with a preset character so all are even and we can test the PVP aspects of the game =)

I am knee deep in the multi player items. Never have written directly a transport layer but this one seems to be going great. I am now starting to send game data back and forth. Soon I will have to go into the game and tweak a few systems to match the messaging system. Really moving however.. if I was back in the game industry I would not believe a single player game could have a fully functional multi player side in a week or two from one guy after hours! ;)… makes me feel good at least =P

Day job then back at it! I do not really have a schedule sadly. I really want alpha 001.0 to have the Arena in it!.. I want to see yall online πŸ˜‰

-“Ok, figured it out. Not really a big bug but there it is. When you press the button and hold it down, and then drag your finger away from the button, and then release it, the button doesn’t activate and it goes gray and stays that way, works everytime. It’s somewhat understandable that it won’t activate since you’re moving your finger away from the button but I guess it doesn’t have to go gray. You should be able to reproduce it now, good luck!”

Update last night was hook up and socket connections tonight will be msg sending and hopefully in game running around in the arena! =)..seriously image reyem neases, and the 4 other summons going off on each other with thousands of weapons and about a hundred ablities that all can be leveled up!

Update: !WOO HOO! Finally got the sockets working through firewalls peer to peer.. what a HASSLE!… I had ONE thing wrong NSURL… you have to feed a function that not a NSString.. sadly this is poorly documented except in one hard to find place =) Google had no good answers but lots of wrong turns -)… AWESOME.. on to connecting now and soon on to getting two players in an arena! =)

Update: Match making system in place. All automatic on your side. On mine I store you as waiting and look for another wating if there I set the ip/name/socketIn/socketOut in both your sql waiting entries. The you query and ask if you have been matched. If yes you go into firewall hole punching mode to the other player. Now that is where I stand =)

Good stuff! Pretty soon hopefully I will be meeting you alpha team members in the arena. Never mind that full angelic suit of amor I will be wearing ;p. Things are moving along in the quest to get an arena system for ME. The plan is you play single player to build your character up then you can jump into the level tiered arena to see just how good your character planning is in pvp! Pretty much how I played world of Warcraft. Soloing to level to get into the arena ;). This ought to be pretty amazing combat seeing as how there are so many abilities and weapons. I think it will be huge!

So day job for now then back to work tonight again unroll midnight!

The new build is out there for playing while I work on mutliplayer!

Update build plans:
I am going to put out a build tonight that test everything BUT level progression and stat stuff IE int , str, agil, int are all still in need of SEVERAL hours of balancing.. BUT I added a fetch quest and fixed a TON of issues.. I think it is in need of release.. I also think to truly test stats we need to have a little progression into the game. Before that happens I have to investigate Arena style multiplayer. So build soon.. then I will get on the Arena stuff. Then back to adding in the next level so we can check progression! =)..

Ignore Reyems Level I am not really working there right now more on base gameplay and story arc =)

What to test:
Play the game through the first 3 quests gather items play the game there will be no cheat code released so we can tell if the difficulty starts out right or not and the like. =)

Update: Networking! weee… done a lot of it but never a over tcp p2p. SOOO my current plan is to use a php page for match making. Then when two or more are connecting they punch throught to each other using the IP and PORT specified on the server for their P2P game.. If anyone knows anything or anyone that does about this their input could save me a ton of time. My fishing game runs on a lan multi-player and is much easier then this. New skills single handed and a few others

as always as you find more skill chips around combine them in the combine window and it will take the highest level one and add + 10% to the next level for that skill for each chip! A +1lvl chip adds a whole level to that skill (you can find them but it is hard) you get them when you level mainly.

This latest build is really shaping up.. now the item conditions matter so be sure to watch out =).. that sword you start with SUCKS! ..

-65% for a decrepit item =)
+100% for an Angelic item =)

Everything is going great.. I worked until midnight again after showing my boat I am trying to sell. I am just playing and tweaking right now while working on the bugs that are submitted. I see the final build to play as a final first 3 levels coming tonight or tomorrow. I think then I will take a break and investigate Multiplayer. Currently I am thinking an ARENA type multiplayer and ladder. So you play single player to bring your bad boy into a WOW type small level combat. Hopefully with 2 guys per team and/or a solo ladder. I think that would be way more fun then a co-op and a lot easier to implement ;)… now that would be awesome.. so investigating that while you guys bang away at the final alpha… for now .. the day job!

Update: Move control setup to in game! =).. now you can change while you play =)

Update: Total change in ballistic combat.. Like most games now the faster you fire the more the bullets. I like it a lot more.. it feels more FPS as Mitch suggested in an email.

If all goes well tonight I will be finishing the stats and the new firing systems.. Place a build out today or tomorrow.. I have to go try to sell my boat tonight so we will see how much time that eats… argh!…

Then we start to get deeper into the game =).. I think that would take a few days after the final build to start moving into the moon more =)

Update looking good for a final alpha000 build… that means the game is “finished” for the first 3 quests.
After you guys say go I will start adding in the rest of the game as we go with those new build releases you will start on those quests. I need to finish the rest of the bug list and test stats out. After that we will be able to move forward!.. awesome!..

Update: If any developers out there experience openAL ceasing to play sounds in the simulater (not device) while in use.

avstreamPlayer and calling stop seems to cause that… a bug apple should fix as it easts a BUNCH of devs time. a

OpenAL taking lots of my time.. tonight I hope to wrap it up. I am still wondering what is wrong.. I seem to be doing everything right and it always works on the device. But that takes forever to load and test.

Update done for the day: And openAL is one of those black boxes i cannot stand… Thats why I write all my own code…. For some reason after playing a while it just stops playing any sounds in the simulator… its random no idea why… love it! NO ERROR CODE NO NOTHING!

Update: Audio is in.OpenAL.. jus time consuming not hard to do. Now I am going back through and adding in locations to audio playing.. so distance now matters on sound and hopefully doppler effects work on the iphone.. not sure but will see soon =)

Update: WOW.. .I was looking at some openAL example code from apple and GASP.. I saw a goto!! man I had not seen a goto call in a decade I think… (and glad too)… thought it interesting =)

Hitch I am looking into openAL for the sound effects now. I was using a VERY old system that supports all devices I wrote way back so……Back to work!

Great not to many bugs coming in I thought I would show you guys a funny one that was sent in. It seems when you grab Turned metals head… since it is a helm you can wear it! =P… I will have to fix that..

fixing a lot of little things before I mow.. really going well =)

Update: roadmap Finish the bug list… then get the next level and 4 quests in maybe more.. Get in the online side so you can see your player online…then investigate multiplayer.

Update: SAVING IN… I have not had time to test it as I have to run an errand.. (I tested it once)

(DONE) But I am putting a build out with it so you guys can at least start to save some.
Will be emailing soon =)

Update: After I clear the bug list we will get into moving forward beyond the first 3 quests =)… which should be very soon since the weekend is here and I can work more.. man if this was a full time job I would be on the sequel by now =-)

I am making a save and load menu.. so you can control your saving and loading -)…

Update 3: Tonight build will have a lot of know issues ( BUT A TON FIXED OR ADDED! ) in it I am putting it out for the stat system and to include new alpha members. Anyway it is the begging now of play testing to get combat sorted =).

Update 2: OK time to start balancing the combat … tonights build will loose the cheat code ;).. and now let the game play mimic what it is without cheating! Stats distribution matter so leveling matters now.. we need to balance out how the stats work per level and where you overpower =)

Added Ranged Weapon Damage Mult. Based off your stats… so you have 3 main paths and of course mixing like crazy which you can also do with just armor sets if you want and have a average player .. so many options.. I have to get some form of mutli-player in with this amount of customization.

2. Skill Based / Energy
3. Melee / Armor

Update 3: please toss ideas too alpha members that way other non participants in the alpha can throw their ideas in the hat… going great so far guys thanks!!! This will be the best fps rpg on the device if it kills me =)

Update 2: OK I have all the new stat mechanics in and will release in tomorrows build.. so we can start testing leveling and the combat.. I will move to the level 1 skills now =-). All the rest of the game will be base off this level of testing just extended and more powerful

Update 0: As soon as we get these bugs out I will start on getting level 2 out and the next 4 quests. Along with the drops on that level. I will proceed that way I think for a while then at some point investigate multi-player. Otherwise I fear loosing peoples interest =P with a long wait between builds.

I am glad doom fan had a great time last night with the new build! .. The game should run like glass on 3GS and iPad.. and very well on the older devices. I am targeting between the two. So far I am happy with the performance on both. Considering the speed differences. I may even get to adding more features to the 3GS and iPad versions. But for now I am fixing bugs as yall feed them to me thanks again for the input!.. Again if you want go ahead and post videos / pics / posts anywhere you want. The more people providing input along this development cycle the better it will be =)

Update 1: For alpha team. AUTO-Walk is in there I never told anyone ;)… just slide your finger off the joystick in the direction you want to auto walk and it will continue to walk in that direction for those long hallways =)

Update 0: BTW When aiming (which you get next build) Rifles should do more damage then pistols. I like aiming makes it fun picking off the bad guys =)..

Update there WILL be a build tonight.. that hud moving is a last minute Fix that broke it .. I should have learned my lesson by now not to go ahead with fixes..

So if you want in alpha look at the previous post and send the email in =).. I have opened more space =)

I should get some time today to the day job finally slacked off a bit after a very hard 2 week run. It is always nice how life lines up. I decide to make the run at alpha and then the main day job starts kicking my butt. However, it made it! =)…

So now off to bugs and tweaks and making this puppy better!

My favorite bug so far.. being able to swing your sword while you are dead on the ground ;)..(which I fixed in 10 seconds πŸ˜‰ already)

O and boy o boy grammatical errors are my specialty. I need to double check my typing as I work!…

Ok Actually going to do some game work as a break this morning and get back to the day job later =)..The best part about the day job is I took a pay cut to work this hard ;).. BUT at least I do have a job! Good stuff lets start the day!

Alpha Team time…

Alpha update:: Just wrestling Apple and all their intricate and secret methods of getting ad hoc to work.. never is easy… =).. So as soon as I test it on my sons ipod as ad-hoc I will upload it and send the email =-)

Final Final Update: I did some more work on the menus added a bunch of stats.. and some other issues…

SO The build IS READY! … I will give until 6:00 cst for more people in the Alpha.. so send some emails!

Final update for alpha 0 I still have 10 slots… so plenty of space if you have a friend that could help =)

Target is 6:00 pm CST to close the invite so I can create the build.. Thanks guys and gals!

Update only 8 so far I want 20 so plenty of room and a few hours left =-)

Its Time =)

I made a VERY quick and dirty tutorial video I am uploading to get alpha members started.

VERY UGLY VIDEO!!! but needed =) excuse it because Ihave not slept much since yesterday getting alpha ready!

I forgot to mention how to equip =)…simply click on an equipable item and choose use =)
I never showed the guns either but o well =).. That is for alpha members =)

Update: Testing done.. there are a few small things but nothing to stop an alpha.. I really want to see if it works on all other devices as well as mine =).. SO… get your emails to me fast! I make the list tomorrow. Now I rest and play =)…I may tweak loot and combat now some more after a break… Man it has been a long road but I finally get to show you guys this creation… πŸ˜‰ Thanks for keeping up with it. I cannot wait to hear your impressions πŸ˜‰

Ok guys its time to build the team so I can get the build done.

I am pushing hard to make today the day I clean up the last few bugs and start the alpha build…

As far as alpha rules:
1. You MUST participate as I have only so many slots and you are valuable input into the future of the game.
2. As of now all input as far as bugs and requests will be here so all can see and add their own even if they are not in alpha. Just post a comment on the latest post by me I will gather them and discuss there keeping a current list on the latest post by me here.
3. If you get in PLEASE post pics and videos in forums and to sites that would make the game proud. If you do please explain it is_ JUST_ in _ALPHA_ and a long way to go -).. that would _REALLY_ help me out.
4. Document any bugs as well as possible and try to reproduce them to provide me steps on how to duplicate them. Then post them here =)..

The alpha will be ONLY the first 3 quests. This is a time to find bugs that could stretch to the rest of the game. A time to find a balance in combat. To add things that will make it more engaging. To make it awesome.

I will include a code word in the alpha to give you every skill to test but only will release that code to a few at first as I want core gameplay tested including drops.

Ok guys start the emails I just cleaned out the bin. I now will get back to working my butt off trying to get this to yall. πŸ˜‰

Skills and Items in Alpha

Update: Ok about 15 min till I hit someplace for some food a drink and head home to work on M.E. .. I sometimes wonder what it feels like to be bored or have free time lol…. ;).. Happy Friday!

Update: Also in alpha I want people to take snaps make videos and show others if possible it is hard for me to get the word out.. really hard with all the other “craps” and good apps out there competing for market share… so no NDA nothing I want people to see what is going on obviously with this blog… =)
point them here if anything this is where I update the most =).

Update: Still fixing bugs I do not want to knowingly have issues in the alpha I will have to address anyway I will be working tonight also as the wifey is out of town.. So I hope to put in a late night and all day tomorrow. Then maybe a build Sunday… in any case it is very soon =-)

Looking good in releasing the alpha within the next 3 days.. Just one major bug and a few lessers.. along with playing the quests over and over =).. Then I will get the alpha group and let them test it for a week. During that time I will look into multiplayer and fix as they supply bugs. =-)

FIRE BURNS IT BURNS!!! OWACH!!!

A small spattering as it is a game play and bug test more then anything not a combat test.

Abilities (spells)

Enemy only :
-A blood bolt is a mixture of energy from your suit and your own blood. It defiles the blood and sends it in a bolt to a target heavily poisoning them.
-Fire bolt will release a burning plasma energy from your suit and ignite a small radius where it impacts.

Player and Enemy:
-Energy beam will pick a random enemy in front of you and directly damage them. It can pass through objects, enemies, and walls. It also has the ability to possbily double any damage to a target for 5 seconds.
-Blocking can significantly reduce damage you are taking for a short time. You must have a shield equiped.
-Use of this skill will ressurect Reyem Nease. A demon that was toyed with by a scientist here. He is of enourmous power and destruction be careful in his calling.
-Throw a small grenade that explodes damaging a 3 meter radius on impact.
-Adding points to this skill (Pistol Whip) will increase the damage your pistol whip with or without a weapon in your left hand.

Items:
Short Sword
.22 pistol and ammo
.228 rifle and ammo

Tier 0 basic steel jumpsuit armor. (ALL LEVELS)

Plus a lot of other stuff to make these items.

Update: Working hard to get alpha done it maybe friday – sunday that I start putting together the build to go out for the very first tests of the game. =).. good stuff.. I have the weekend as of now all for work! That would surely be enough!… So back to the day job then burning the midnight oil tonight. =)

Final Reyem Neas Summon effect:
